Habitus & biology

Argentina anserina is a perennial plant. The leaves can be green on the upper sides and only have fine hairs and a silvery appearance on the undersides. Some specimens, as shown here in the pictures, have fine hairs on both sides of the leaves and a silvery sheen.

Distribution & habitates

The natural area of distribution is in Asia, Europe and North America. Argentina anserina is also found as an introduced species in Australia and some South American countries (source).

Silverweed grows on shores, in dunes, meadows, ditches or along roadsides.

Botany

Silverweed (Argentina anserina) is a member of the rose family (Rosaceae) and can still be found in the literature under its old botanical name: Potentilla anserina. It is also called common silverweed and silver cinquefoil.
