Habitus & biology

Phytolacca acinosa is a perennial, deciduous plant and can grow up to 1.5 metres high. It forms clumps and grows from a tuberous rhizome. All parts of the plant are slightly poisonous.

Distribution & habitates
Temperate to tropical Asia and as an introduced species also in some European countries and North America (source).

The Indian pokeweed grows on embankments, hedges, in parks, gardens, on traffic islands and in parking bays, as well as along roadsides. It copes well with urban locations and tolerates partial shade.
